Freehand Books launch in Toronto!

OK, so my next book is called Buying Cigarettes for the Dog. It's a collection of short stories, including a rewrite of my 1990 novella Guided Missiles. My last full-length story collection was published in 1997 (Henry Kafka & Other Stories, from The Mercury Press).

Cigarettes is being published next spring by Freehand Books, a small press run out of Calgary by Melanie Little, author of Confidence. In fact, I'm heading out to meet Melanie about the manuscript in about an hour. And I'm doing my best to dig myself out of a deluge of freelance editing so I can get back to work on it.

Plus Freehand is launching its first-ever books tomorrow night, here in Toronto!

See you there, I hope.

Over and out.

WINTER AND NIGHT

WINTER AND NIGHT

That menace nodded.
Have you thought?
Two boys was alone.
Her voice like that diner.
A five pushed the door
into the cold.
A cigarette cupped my hands,
pulled the phone from
my pocket. You're big and free.
I want big.
Unless you bust you.
Just meaning. The end.

Resurrection

OK, let's see if I can get this blog going again.

Baby steps.

Brooklyn poet Kyle Schlesinger blogs about Confessions of a Small Press Racketeer. Here ya go.

Over and out.
